Hotel Marktgasse Zurich

After a careful two years restoration and renovation, the Marktgasse Hotel in Zurich opened its doors last autumn. Situated in the heart of Zurich’s old town, the historic, listed building, which was first recorded in 1291, combines a boutique hotel with two restaurants and a bar but has retained its authenticity. All 39 rooms, furnished with many design classics, have different layouts and special features. Basel-based architects Miller & Maranta, design consultants Kessler & Kessler and hotel design specialists IDA 14 have transformed one of the city’s oldest inns into an unique modern boutique gem while keeping all the historic and protected details intact. The hotel has a library and adjoining salon on the upper floor and on the ground floor you will find the Baltho Restaurant and the Baltho Bar as well as the delish Café. The hotel has a very creative ambiance and as a guest you feel at home right away. Since the hotel is situated in the heart of the old town, and because of its beautiful bar and wonderful restaurant, it is always pleasantly busy with an eclectic mix of business people, artists, locals and hotel guests. We enjoyed a perfect stay thanks to the very helpful and friendly staff led by general manager Olivier Gerber. Right next door is the Cabaret Voltaire, the birthplace of the Dada movement, which is celebrating a hundred years of Dadaism this year along with the biennial Manifesta arts festival in June.
