J.K. Place Roma, Italy

The five-star J.K. Place Roma, set in the grand old building that was formerly Sapienza University’s
school of architecture, opened its doors in the beating heart of the Eternal City only a few minutes away from the Spanish Steps and Via Condotti in the autumn of 2013. The hotel features thirty guest rooms and suites appointed with contemporary and antique pieces to create a feeling reminiscent of the era of ‘La Dolce Vita’ combined with the most modern comforts of a top luxury boutique hotel.

Designed, like its sister hotels in Florence and Capri, by architect Michele Bonan, I think this wonderful eclectic mix of art and design is his Magnum Opus in hotel design. The entrance courtyard has been given a glass roof, creating a contemporary living space ablaze with light and overlooked by statuary and contemporary artworks. My favourite is the wall panel by Gruppo NP2. You can also sit and read in the well-designed library, decorated with graphic rugs, mid-century modern furniture and bronze-trimmed doors. The J.K. Café Lounge, Bar & Restaurant, offering Italian and international specialties, and the roof garden bar are perfect places to relax in the ‘J.K. way’.
