Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo

Situated next to the Greek theatre in the ancient heart of Taormina, the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo offers its guests stunning views across the sea and Mount Etna. One of Italy’s most glamorous retreats since 1863, the hotel is surrounded by a magnificent park. It has long been a special destination and tranquil getaway for artists and celebrities including Picasso, Greta Garbo, Truman Capote and Jean Cocteau. They and many others have been entranced by this seaside institution. And every year the hotel is the centre of the famous international Taormina Film Festival. The restaurant offers a sensational menu featuring Sicilian and Mediterranean specialities. I had the pleasure to enjoy of one of the best Sicilian meals I have ever had, prepared by chef Roberto Toro. I started with the delicious Caponata (sweet and sour braised vegetables) followed by an amazing Pasta con le sarde (traditional pasta with fresh sardine fillets). After this, I enjoyed exquisite grilled sea bass and I have to mention my typical Sicilian dessert: cannoli with ricotta cheese. I was already planning my next trip to this magnificent location as I sipped my digestif in the Literary Bar, listening to the great stories of barman, Alfio Liotta.
