Rustic stone courtyards with bright flowers, Il Melograno, Monopoli 2024

A former country estate close to the historic fishing town of Monopoli, Il Melograno is the perfect location to enjoy everything that Puglia has to offer. This 17th century estate surrounded by an ancient olive grove was the first masseria in Puglia to become a luxury hotel. It has been beautifully renovated in a way that respects the location’s history and authenticity. It’s noticeable that when you are inside there is always a natural connection with the outside. Bright flowers and vines cling to the white walls that surround rustic stone courtyards with antique chairs and tables. As well as being utterly beautiful, this relaxed haven immerses you in the heritage and culture of Puglia. Il Melograno is in every respect a contemporary Italian retreat with a splendid outdoor pool and calming spa, but at the same time its walls are a reminder of its past as a masseria: a fortified farmhouse protecting Puglia’s rich produce from Saracens and other raiders. The chefs use many ingredients from the hotel’s own kitchen garden. The fusion of past and present continues in the guestrooms, where the white walls become a canvas for traditional furnishings and original artworks. Once you have settled in, you can switch to holiday mood right away. If you feel like it, you can always take the hotel shuttle down to Il Melograno’s gorgeous Beach Club for cocktails, freshly-caught fish and magical sea views.
