Olissippo Lapa Palace, LisbonPhotography by Mart Engelen The Olissippo Lapa Palace is the jewel of Lisbon’s Lapa district. The hotel was the private residence of the Count of Valencas and stands on a hilltop in one of Lisbon’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, just moments away from the city’s most famous sites and shopping streets. The 109 gracefully-appointed rooms of this member of Leading Hotels of the World are located in the hotel’s colonial core and two modern wings. All feature furniture in the King Joao V and Queen Maria I styles, recreated by skilled craftsmen in the north of Portugal. The Royal Suite on the fifth floor has original furnishings and gold-leaf mirrors from 1870. Views of the Tagus complement the Mediterranean cuisine at the Lapa Restaurant, but other rooms, including The Tower Room, which is a lavishly luxurious suite with two private balconies, have arguably the best views in Lisbon. Staying here for the first time was a wonderful discovery.Copyright 2017 Mart Engelen Buy Issue
