The Peninsula, Paris

The Peninsula Paris on the Avenue Kléber in the elegant 16th arrondissement is a short walk from the Arc de Triomphe and also close to Trocadéro and the Palais de Tokyo. For fashion aficionados, the designer boutiques, including Dior, Louis Vuitton and Chanel, on the chic Avenue George V and Avenue Montaigne are nearby. I simply love the area and funnily enough in the 1990s and a few years later I stayed at the discreet Hotel Costes K on the Avenue Kléber which has since closed. After busy day rushing around the city, it’s really nice to come back to a haven of tranquillity and I had that wonderful feeling again when we checked in at The Peninsula last month. This grande dame of luxury, which should have a capital ‘L’, is definitely one of the best places to stay in the City of Light and it is no wonder that The Peninsula Paris was voted the Number 1 hotel in Paris in Con- dé Nast Traveler’s 2021 Reader’s Choice awards. When we entered our spacious, beautiful Junior Suite, our well-behaved pet Lino nestled right away in his bed on a beautiful personalised blanket. The hotel’s restaurants also provide guests with superlative culinary experiences. You can choose between the Michelin-starred L’Oiseau Blanc, offering spectacular views over the Eiffel Tower and the Parisian cityscape, and the newly reopened LiLi with its dramatic interior design inspired by Chinese and French opera. We opted for the vibrant atmosphere of LiLi where chef Dicky To creates French-Cantonese delights. And everything was accompanied by the cool vibes of a DJ. We enjoyed our stay tremendously and there seems to be no end to the facilities and amenities: a wonderful night-time drive in the hotel’s vintage 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II followed by dinner at L’Oiseau Blanc is high on our bucket list.
