Villa Flor, a secret corner of the Engadin paradise
Text and Photography by Mart Engelen
I visited Villa Flor in 2021, during the covid period, to interview Julian Schnabel about his new exhibition in St.Moritz and was immediately charmed by this intimate property where Julian is a regular guest and friend. So when Ladina Florineth, the owner, invited me to return, I was delighted to accept. She has renovated this 100-year-old house with the utmost care and the seven rooms are a mixture of beautiful, cosy, traditional Engadin elements and pine interiors along with modern art and photography. The moment you enter the villa in the tiny village of S-chanf, a 15-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of St. Moritz, you feel at home. Ladina’s love for art is everywhere and a couple of times a year she also curates exhibitions in Villa Flor. No surprise then that artists, writers and nature lovers are regular guests at this wonderful place, this little Engadin paradise. The villa is the perfect private refuge to unwind. In the morning you can enjoy a faultless healthy breakfast and, after your coffee, piles of art books in the library. Lunch and dinner are not served but the area has no shortage of great restaurants. Last but not least, pets are welcome but they will have to be approved by Ladina’s lovely pet dog, Fritz.
